Crockpot Cubed Steak

My aunt would make this and my uncle would rave about it. My mom finally got the "recipe" from her and it was delicious. This is one of my favorites on Sunday (is there anything more wonderful than lunch/dinner just waiting on you to get home from church?).

Crockpot Cubed Steak

desired number of cubed steaks
Lipton onion soup (approximately 1 package for every 4-5 steaks)
cream of mushroom soup (approximately 2 cans for every 4-5 steaks)
Your crockpot

1-Put the cubed steak in the crockpot
2-Pour onion soup mix on top of cubed steak
3-Cover with cream of mushroom soup.
4-Can turn crockpot on low or high-it just depends on how fast you want it ready.

We serve this with rice and usually sauteed green beans. It's a pretty easy recipe. It makes its own gravy and you just kind of "eye ball" how much of the soup mix and cream of mushroom soup you want.

  1. Sounds yummy. I do the exact same thing with roast. Love that smell when I get home from church!

  2. Been looking for a recipe for cubed steak and this seems like a good idea. I am not a great cooker, and having said that: how much water should I use? I want to make this for supper tonight. Thanks.

    1. No water is required. Just put in the ingredients listed. The meat will make the juice needed. You will love this. I made it tonight.

  3. Made this today. I didn't have any onion soup mix, but did have a package of stew seasoning which I used with a can of Cream of Mushroom. It was delicious and so easy!!

Thank you and I look forward to trying some of your other recipes.

    1. I usually put it in around 10 am, cook on the low setting & it's ready by 5-6 pm (depending on how much you put in). To test I see if I can easily cut through it with a fork. About 8 hours is usually more than enough.

  8. I just finished putting it in the crock put for my dinner tonight. Wish I had found this receipe earlier and I would have started it earlier because I prefer to use the LOW setting on my crock pot because I believe all the meat comes out much more tender, however it is on High now so it will be ready for dinner. Hope it comes out as yummy as everyone says.

  10. 3-4 hours on the high setting. I would agree with Cathy-it's more tender and the gravy it creates is more of the consistency that I like when cooked on the low setting.

  13. I have been making this for 25+ years, since my mother-in-law who lives in Arkansas taught me. Dredge the steaks in flour (spiced with salt, pepper, garlic, onion) first, and flash-brown them....then use the leftovers to make your onion-soup/cream of mushroom soup gravy. She taught me to be heavy on the pepper....on low....about 6 hours. On high, 3 hours. It can overcook....I noticed that folks don't mention that....overcooked, it becomes prison food...lol...

    1. Hi Max! Most crockpots just have a "low" and "high" setting, so there's not a specific temperature setting.

  16. My husband doesn't like cream of mushroom, do you think it would work the same with cream of chicken?

  17. Can you put this in the oven instead of a crock pot? If so, what temperature do you put it on? How long do you bake it?
